our efforts.
Fimbel Architectural Specialties is a proud member of U.S. Green Building Council. U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is a 501(c)(3) non profit composed of
leaders from every sector of the building industry working to promote buildings and communities that are environmentally responsible, profitable, and healthy
places to live and work. USGBC developed the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System.

- Manufacturing of Product with Eco-Friendly Materials
- Dur-A-Tek Hardwood Composite
- Our Dur-A-Tek Hardwood Composite is FULLY composed of materials certified by Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) in the following ares:
- The resins used to make this product have no added urea formaldehyde. This is certified by Scientific Certification Systems, certificate number SCS-MC-01802. This product is manufactured with environmentally preferable phenolic resins.
- Dur-A-Tek's materials, due to their specific physical composition, are not subject to the California Air Resource Board's Airborne Toxic Control Measure 93120 (ATCM), which enforces limits on formaldehyde emissions. Had they been subject to the ATCM, Dur-A-Tek's materials would meet the requirements set forth for the designation "ultra low formaldehyde emitter." Dur-A-Tek's materials have demonstrated formaldehyde emissions equivalent to wood through repeated testing by the Composite Panel Association (CPA), a third party certifier for the CARB ATCM rule.
- No old growth wood is used in the manufacture of Dur-A-Tek Composite Panels. Dur-A-Tek is made from 100% Northern hardwoods - maple, beech, oak, and other species from the following sources
- Wood that is the byproduct of other operations - This timber has no commercial value otherwise.
- Scrag Wood- Material that is of no commercial value. It is actually detrimental to the overall vitality of the forest. Therefore, its use promotes good forest management.
- Hardwoods from environmentally sound Managed Forests
- Our stain grade mahogany products, Deluxe Estates Stain Grade and Early American Mahogany batten, are MTTC Certified Blue Star timbers - harvested exclusively from Permanent Reserved Forests, using a rotating selective felling system:
- intended to create a perpetually regenerating natural forest that is a renewable source of forest products. Timber is not clear cut. Nor is the natural forest converted to commercial tree plantations of single species.
- Under current guidelines, an average of one to two trees per acre are selected by the foresters for extraction, based on scientific forest management principles. Trees are not selected for their commercial value.
- As trees are harvested, increased sunlight reaches the lower level of the forest and triggers rapid new growth that resembles the original mixture of species. Once an area has been logged, it is left alone for 30-35 years, before it can be logged again. This cycle can be repeated perpetually.
- More information regarding the source of our hardwoods can be found here.
- Efficient and Environmentally Responsible Manufacturing Techniques
- Our SPF core materials are generated from otherwise commercially invaluable byproducts of other operations. Mill-able to exacting specifications and extremely structurally durable, they provide a superior foundation for our overhead door products, while having a negligible environmental impact.
- Our Scrap overhead is at an all time low, thanks to efficient use of raw materials and highly incorporated product lines
- Less scrap means less waste going out the door
- Most of our manufacturing byproducts are re-used either by us or a third party. This includes but is not limited to:
- Scrap aluminum, vinyl, and steel
- Sawdust
- Packaging Materials
- As an added benefit, our lines are considerably higher in quality and we can price them lower
